Have you ever asked yourself the following questions:
“How do I actually get started as an audiobook narrator?”
“Why do some narrators seem to book work consistently while others struggle to land their first few titles?”
“What does it really take to become a professional audiobook narrator?”
“How do I move beyond small projects or ACX and start working with publishers?”
If so then you’ve come to the right place!
Whether you’re just starting to explore audiobook narration, have already recorded a few books, or are trying to figure out how to take the next step in your career, it can be difficult to know what actually matters and what direction to move next.
I was never the entrepreneur type.
I always had the security of a job and for a long time worked two jobs to support my family.
But in 2008, I was working in a factory as a machine operator and I knew that I needed to do something with my life.
After going to a recording tech school, I struggled for 2 years trying to find a recording studio that was hiring. I had a dream to become a successful audio engineer, recording bands, and then it happened!
Newly married, my wife and I moved to Chicago, where I was able to work with bands I grew up listening to!
But after a year, money was tight, we had a new baby on the way, and we missed our family and friends. So the choice was hard, but clear. We had to move back home and I felt like my dream came to an end.
My dad had mentioned an audiobook publisher near our area, Brilliance Publishing and I figured why not? It won’t keep me in the music industry, but it’ll let me work in the audio industry still and provide for my family.

After 10+ years working in the audiobook industry, building professional relationships with many narrators, I realized the power in helping others.
I started being asked by narrator-friends to help out with home studio solutions, recording, and mastering tips.
It’s awesome! I’ve always loved helping others and being a people-person, it gives me a real sense of pride to see others succeed.
I have a huge passion for audio and serving others, so it only makes sense to join the two together.
Build something that narrators can rely on and master more of their craft in audiobooks.
It’s my belief to give a helping hand and be there for people that need it. I hate to see people struggle, so I built The Home Audio Project so I can be that one to lean on when needed.
If any of that sounds intriguing to you, then you’re in the right place. Let me show you all that I’ve learned over the past 10+ years of engineering audiobooks.
It might have taken me years to know everything I know about recording, editing, and mastering in audio (and later audiobooks), but you can actually get started a lot faster than I did!
